A little rant I just had on friend’s timeline, so I start with an apology to my friend Mr. Cavis. The question was about Reiki and what is the difference with Angelic Reiki.
Sorry to jump in on this with a cynical eye but isn’t it all about money and marketing. Angelic anything makes it sound just a little bit different and therefore worth a bit more money and appeals to egos. I think someone who said ‘something someone coined along the way’ has it right.
Dr. Usui set out to answer a challenge by his students and his treatise is called “Reiki: The Usui Method of Natural Healing”. In Japan all forms of energy healing are referred to as Reiki so someone who has ‘taught’ healing said that students reported little difference, of course because basically they are the same.
It was Mrs Hawayo Takata who brought Reiki to America. She stated that Dr. Mikao Usui was a Christian minister and teacher in a Japanese University. However we are also told that Reiki was rediscovered in the mid 1800s by a Buddhist Monk, Dr. Usui. I suggest that Mrs. Takata was either misquoted or wanted to make Reiki more palatable to a strongly Christian America; she was after all charging substantial sums for her teaching and ‘attunement.’
What I do not understand is why it costs so much to ‘learn’ to be a Reiki healer. I have paid to be level 1 attuned many years ago (I thought I should have the experience). ‘Attuned’ I ask you. The experience was a joke or would have been had everyone not taken it so seriously. A classic case of The Emperor’s new clothes. I have since been offered to be ‘made’ a Master with a certificate to prove it (WTF) for not the usual fee of £3,000 but a mere £165.00. With a certificate!!!! Wow. Makes a mockery of the whole thing, It is all about money.
Dr. Usui said on a visit to the West ‘We have given Reiki to the West and look what they have done with it.” Of course the Reiki community considered this a compliment however the remainder of the quote is something to the effect “We should have kept it in the East,” meaning – healing is not about money or ego or being a grade 1, 2 or a master but about channeling energy from the source, whatever that is, and giving in humility.
Did I say I was sorry to jump in, I take that back.
